President Donald Trump’s recent executive order to end birthright citizenship, now temporarily allowed to proceed by the U.S. Supreme Court, marks a radical shift in U.S. constitutional interpretation. For over 150 years, the 14th Amendment has guaranteed that any child born on U.S. soil is automatically a citizen, regardless of their parents’ immigration status.
